“San Francisco Giants Reassign Pitcher After Tough Outing, Reintroduce Reliever to Roster”
The San Francisco Giants experienced a disappointing defeat on Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, their divisional rivals.
Following a strong start with a win in the series opener, the Giants faced a setback as the Diamondbacks equaled their franchise record for hits in a game during a crushing 17-1 loss.
The game proved to be another challenging outing for their recently acquired starter, Blake Snell, who continues to struggle as he adjusts to his new team after a shortened preparation period.
However, the situation worsened when the Giants turned to their bullpen. Each of the four relievers called upon conceded a run, resulting in a total of 11 earned runs. Among them, Kai-Wei Teng faced particular difficulties.
Teng, a 26-year-old right-handed pitcher ranked as San Francisco’s No. 23 prospect, surrendered five earned runs on four hits and issued three walks. Despite his extensive experience as a starter in the minors, appearing in 102 games with 99 starts, Teng was exclusively utilized as a reliever by the Giants.
Following the disappointing performance, the Giants made the decision to option Teng back to Triple-A and reinstate Sean Hjelle, who had been sidelined due to a right elbow strain and was on the 15-day injured list.
Manager Bob Melvin expressed his belief that this move will ultimately benefit Teng’s development in the long term.
