The Giants clinch a thrilling victory over the table-topping Tigers in a gripping VFL match.

The GIANTS’ VFL team continues to gain momentum after securing a thrilling eight-point victory over the table-topping Tigers at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee on Saturday afternoon.

In a tightly contested match, the GIANTS fought toe-to-toe with one of the league’s strongest teams, with the lead fluctuating by less than a kick at each interval. Matt Harms and Conor Stone’s crucial goals in the final moments sealed the GIANTS’ dramatic 16.10 (106) to 14.14 (98) triumph.

Despite trailing for most of the final quarter, the GIANTS refused to relent, displaying resilience and determination. Harms’ pivotal goal from close range followed by Stone’s third goal shortly after secured the upset victory over last year’s runners-up.

The win comes on the back of the GIANTS’ impressive 46-point triumph over Sandringham the previous week, positioning them at 2-1 for the VFL season. This victory hands the Tigers their first defeat of the year and their first home and away loss since round four last season.

However, the thrilling encounter was marred by injuries to GIANT Izaac Hughes and Tiger Nick Hayes, who collided head-on in a distressing incident during the second term. Both players were stretchered off the field, with Hughes remaining hospitalized overnight.

Stone and Toby McMullin starred for the GIANTS with standout performances, bolstering their case for AFL selection. Nick Madden also delivered a commanding display, contributing significantly in both the ruck and forward line, while Braydon Preuss impressed in his second game back from injury.

With the victory secured, the GIANTS turn their focus to their upcoming clash against the Kangaroos at Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday, aiming to extend their winning streak to three games.
