On Saturday afternoon, the Footscray Bulldogs secured a commanding victory against Williamstown, dominating the hosts with a remarkable 43-point win at DSV Stadium.
Despite facing challenging conditions, the Bulldogs’ determination and skill were evident in their 6.5 (41) to 12.12 (84) triumph, propelling them to the top of the ladder by the round’s conclusion as the sole undefeated team in the league.
Right from the start, it was clear that one side of the field favored the Bulldogs, with 11 out of their 12 goals scored from that end. They capitalized on this advantage, especially in the second quarter, where they added six goals to one, establishing a commanding 36-point lead by halftime, which they maintained until the final whistle.
A standout moment in the game was Joel Freijah’s debut goal for the Bulldogs, marking a memorable milestone for the newcomer. However, Trent Bianco stole the spotlight with his exceptional performance, earning the title of best on ground. Bianco’s impressive display included three crucial goals, 26 disposals, and seven tackles, showcasing his versatility and impact across the field.
Charlie Clarke and Dominic Bedendo also made notable contributions with two goals each and 10 disposals from Clarke. Caleb Daniel was solid with 20 touches and a goal.
Clarke’s defensive efforts stood out, tallying an impressive nine tackles to disrupt Williamstown’s attacking momentum.
After a bye weekend, the Bulldogs will host Box Hill at Mission Whitten Oval on Sunday, May 5th.
