Tuesday has proven to be quite eventful for Michigan State football. The excitement actually kicked off late Monday night with the Spartans securing their first commitment in the 2025 high school class from quarterback Leo Hannan.
As Tuesday unfolded, the team witnessed several players enter the transfer portal, including running back Jalen Berger, who made his decision Tuesday afternoon.
However, by Tuesday evening, Michigan State had more than made up for the loss of Berger by landing one of the most sought-after running backs available in the transfer portal.
Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams, a transfer from UMass, brings an impressive track record to the Spartans. While it took him some time to find his rhythm in college, Lynch-Adams flourished once he hit his stride. In the past season at UMass, he racked up 1,157 rushing yards (ranking 27th nationally) and scored 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed 20 receptions for 118 yards.
Lynch-Adams will join Nate Carter in Michigan State’s backfield, forming a formidable one-two punch. Both players are more than capable of assuming the starting role, and it’s likely that they will share carries extensively throughout the season, with playing time possibly dependent on matchups.

It’s evident that head coach Jonathan Smith was determined to secure Lynch-Adams, as he was among the first running backs contacted in the portal. Smith even arranged a visit with Lynch-Adams starting on April 22, underscoring his priority status within the program.
As for future commitments for Michigan State, only time will tell. However, given the rapid pace of the transfer portal cycle, it’s likely that additional announcements will be forthcoming in the near future.
