Louisville Football Program Lands Transfer Commitment: Myles Jernigan Joins Cardinals

Following a series of player departures during the spring transfer window, the Louisville football program has secured its initial commitment post-spring ball.

Myles Jernigan, an outside linebacker with five seasons of experience at Cal before entering the transfer portal this month, announced Wednesday his commitment to the Cardinals for his final year of eligibility.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 235 pounds, Jernigan has been a consistent presence on Cal’s defensive line for the past two seasons. In the previous season, he participated in 12 games, starting five, and recorded 20 tackles, 2.5 for loss, a sack, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup. He also ranked second on the team in forced fumbles with two.

Originally from Grand Prairie, Texas, Jernigan saw limited action in his initial three seasons with the Golden Bears before establishing a role during the 2022 campaign. During that season, he appeared in all 12 games, starting in all but one, and accumulated 32 tackles, three for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup.

Given recent developments in the transfer portal, Jernigan emerges as a strong candidate to start or provide backup at the LEO position on Louisville’s defensive line. This week, Tennessee transfer Tyler Baron opted to re-enter the portal.

Louisville has now secured 23 transfer commitments in this cycle, while also witnessing 24 scholarship returners entering the portal. Since the opening of the 15-day spring portal window on April 16, nine Cards have transferred, including four who joined as transfers during the winter portal window.

The Cardinals concluded their 2023 season with an overall record of 10-4 (7-1 in ACC), securing a spot in the program’s inaugural ACC Championship Game. The second year under head coach Jeff Brohm is set to commence against Austin Peay on Saturday, August 31 at L&N Stadium.
