A New Era Dawns for Oregon Football

As the 2024 season approaches, the Oregon Ducks football program is gearing up for a fresh start under the leadership of head coach Dan Lanning. With changes in conference alignment and a new starting quarterback on the horizon, the Ducks are also undergoing significant shifts within their coaching staff, welcoming new faces and bidding farewell to familiar ones.

Outgoing Staff Members:
Departing from the coaching staff is Carlos Locklyn, who joined in January 2022 but has announced his move to Ohio State University. Locklyn leaves behind a legacy of success, notably contributing to Oregon’s strong rushing game over the past two seasons.

In his tenure, the Ducks saw remarkable achievements in rushing yards per game, ranking among the top 30 nationally and leading the Pac-12 in total rushing yards in 2023. Locklyn’s departure paves the way for Ra’Shaad Samples to step into the role of running backs coach.

Incoming Staff Members:
Samples, with previous coaching experience at Arizona State and the Los Angeles Rams, brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of player development. His arrival signals a new chapter for Oregon’s running back room, which he views as deep and promising.

Another departure from the Ducks’ coaching staff is Demetrice Martin, who is set to join Michigan State University. Martin’s departure leaves significant shoes to fill, given his dual role as cornerbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

Promotions within the Staff:
To fill the void left by Martin, Rashad Wadood steps up to work with the cornerbacks, building on his previous experience as a graduate assistant. Brian Michalowski assumes the position of inside linebackers coach after serving as a defensive analyst, bringing with him a background in coaching linebackers at various programs.

Chris Hampton, who previously coached safeties, will expand his role to include coaching all defensive backs. With continuity and chemistry among the defensive staff, Hampton emphasizes the importance of building on the foundation laid in the previous season.

Moving Forward:
As Oregon football undergoes these coaching transitions, head coach Dan Lanning remains optimistic about the future. He views these changes as opportunities for growth and improvement, with a focus on bringing in talented individuals who can contribute to the program’s success.

With a blend of seasoned coaches and rising stars, the Ducks are poised to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season and continue their pursuit of excellence on and off the field. As the team prepares for the 2024 campaign, the coaching staff changes serve as a testament to Oregon’s commitment to evolution and progress in collegiate football.
