Williams has been sidelined again.

The Cleveland Guardians’ pitching rotation continues to face setbacks, with Gavin Williams experiencing a recurrence of soreness in the back of his right elbow after his recent start in Arizona. He flew to Cleveland for evaluation and received an anti-inflammatory injection to manage the pain. Williams will not throw for seven days, after which the team hopes he can resume throwing without significant setback.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt expressed optimism that Williams can quickly return to throwing, emphasizing the team’s cautious approach. Williams’ injury adds to the challenges faced by the rotation, which currently includes Logan Allen, Tanner Bibee, Triston McKenzie, Carlos Carrasco, and Ben Lively. Xzavion Curry, who made a spot start recently, provides additional depth, but the rotation is still under pressure.

The Guardians had anticipated a different rotation setup, and injuries have limited their options. Joey Cantillo, a top prospect, is also unavailable due to injury. The lack of depth means the team is relying heavily on the current rotation and hoping for a quick recovery for Williams. Despite the challenges, Vogt emphasized focusing on the present and competing with the available roster, acknowledging the team’s resilience amidst adversity.
