Baylor Men’s Basketball Bolsters Roster with Addition of Former Duke Guard Jeremy Roach

Baylor men’s basketball has finalized a significant addition during the transfer portal period with the confirmation that former Duke guard Jeremy Roach has not only committed but also signed with the Bears.

During his tenure at Duke, Roach served as a two-time captain, starting 108 games and participating in 130 over four seasons in Durham, N.C. Head coach Scott Drew welcomes Roach, who brings one remaining year of eligibility, to join Jayden Nunn, Langston Love, and VJ Edgecombe in the guard position.

“Jeremy has a wealth of experience contributing significantly to high-stakes games throughout his career,” remarked Drew. “As an all-conference standout in the ACC and a multi-season team captain, he will be a valuable addition to our team both on and off the court, and our fans will undoubtedly enjoy watching his competitive spirit in action.”

Roach’s contributions helped Duke achieve a Final Four appearance (2022), an ACC regular-season championship (2022), and an ACC Tournament title (2023). Accumulating 1,469 career points and 402 career assists, Roach boasts an impressive track record. In his senior campaign, he averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists while shooting 42.9% from beyond the arc.

When Baylor faced Roach at Madison Square Garden in December 2023, he showcased his talent with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting and a 7-of-8 free throw performance. Notably, Roach played nearly the entire game, barring a mere 15 seconds, in Duke’s victory over Baylor.

High expectations surround Roach’s arrival, particularly considering his endorsement of Drew’s reputation for nurturing guard talent. While he may not play every minute of every game, Roach’s defensive prowess and scoring ability ensure his impactful presence on the court.

Roach’s accolades include starting the 2023-24 season on the Jerry West Award watch list and ranking sixth in the conference for assist-turnover ratio (2.3). Across his four-year career, the 6-foot-2 Virginia native has maintained averages of 10.9 points and 3.0 assists per game while shooting .435 from the field. His senior year marked notable improvement across all statistical categories.

Ultimately choosing Baylor over other prominent programs such as Arkansas, St. John’s, Kentucky, Villanova, and Syracuse, Roach received interest from each of these schools immediately after entering the transfer portal.
