David King Expresses Excitement Over Essendon’s Potential

David King believes that Essendon is making progress in addressing their flaws but remains inconsistent to challenge the top teams in the league.

King’s assessment followed Essendon’s draw of 85-85 with Collingwood on Anzac Day.

Essendon exhibited a strong start in the clash, scoring four goals within the first eight minutes before Collingwood had a chance to penetrate their defensive line. King particularly lauded their early defensive efforts.

While Essendon has historically been competitive in contested situations under Brad Scott, their vulnerability in defense has often been their downfall. However, King observes signs of improvement in this area.

In the first half, Essendon conceded only 16 points from defensive 50, a positive sign of their defensive capabilities. However, they allowed 31 points from defensive 50 in the second half, which prevented them from securing victory.

King highlighted the importance of consistency in defense and expressed optimism that Essendon will enhance their stability in this aspect, which could serve as the foundation of their game.

Once Essendon achieves this consistency, King anticipates rapid improvement for the team.

The Dons, with a record of 4-1-2, will face West Coast at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
