Expected to be a starter for the Razorbacks in 2024, Johnson faced a significant role in the secondary, especially considering the team’s depth challenges with other members entering the transfer portal. Now returning to Baylor, Johnson joins a talented cornerback unit featuring players like Caden Jenkins, LeVar Thornton Jr., Tevin Williams III, and Chateau Reed. Despite the competition, Johnson’s proven ability as a playmaker positions him to resume his starting role.
During his previous stint at Baylor, Johnson started 13 games and appeared in seven more, showcasing his defensive prowess with tackles, forced turnovers, and pass breakups. Despite facing injuries in 2021, Johnson demonstrated resilience by starting in the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss.
Having redshirted in 2020, Johnson arrives as part of head coach Dave Aranda’s impactful recruitment efforts during the spring transfer window. With Johnson comes not only high expectations and leadership but also the potential to contribute significantly on the field. His return to Baylor coincides with the visits of other transfer portal prospects, indicating a strategic move by the coaching staff to bolster the team’s roster depth and competitiveness.
