“Bears’ Wide Receiver Out 6-8 Weeks After Injury in Week 1 Win”
CHICAGO – The Chicago Bears are dealing with another injury concern as they move into Week 2.
Rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze is scheduled for an MRI on his knee Monday, as stated by Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. Eberflus noted that he is unsure exactly when Odunze sustained the injury but suspects it occurred during a blocking play.
Odunze exited the game in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s victory after blocking on a 20-yard run by D’Andre Swift.
In his NFL debut, Odunze caught one pass for 11 yards, his first career reception, though it was an unusual play.

During the game, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw a pass intended for DJ Moore that was deflected into the air. Odunze jumped to catch the ball but was hit hard upon landing, causing him to fumble. The ball was recovered by Bears’ lineman Teven Jenkins.
“I caught the ball and came down, but immediately got hit,” Odunze said. “I need to secure it all the way to the ground.”
The standout college receiver had a challenging introduction to the NFL.
“That’s not how I imagined my first NFL reception, but that’s football,” Odunze reflected. “You never know what’s going to happen. I was there to make a play, got hit hard, and lost the ball, but it’s a learning experience.”
