BREAKING: A member of the Air Force football team has passed away following a short illness.

A U.S. Air Force Academy cadet, Hunter Brown, passed away after experiencing a “medical emergency” while on his way to class. Brown, 21, was an offensive lineman for the Air Force football team. Despite efforts by first responders to save him, Brown did not survive.

Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, U.S. Air Force Academy superintendent, expressed condolences, stating, “The entire U.S. Air Force Academy mourns his loss, and our hearts and condolences are with his family, his squadron, and all who were touched by this incredible young man.”

Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Brown was pursuing a major in management, with a minor in French, and was assigned to Cadet Squadron 16. He was also part of the Falcon football team during its back-to-back winning seasons. Brown graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in May 2021.

Head football coach Troy Calhoun praised Brown, saying, “Our players, staff and entire Academy have been so blessed and fortunate to have Hunter as a part of our lives. He was a pure joy to coach and have as a teammate… His mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised a wonderful son who made each of us a better person. We love our great brother, and our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter’s incredible soul and his family.”

Brown’s passing occurred shortly after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game. Hamlin was released from the hospital later in the week.
