Florida Football Transfer Update: Former Florida Gator Chief Borders Returns to Transfer Portal

Last offseason, the Florida Football program experienced a significant turnover as numerous players departed under the leadership of Billy Napier, who initiated a comprehensive roster overhaul for the Gators.

Continuing this trend into the current spring, several players who had previously transferred away from Gainesville are now seeking new opportunities elsewhere.

One such example is Chief Borders, who arrived at Florida with promise as part of the 2021 recruiting class. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 240 pounds, Borders struggled to secure a spot in the lineup during his time with the Gators, accumulating only 19 snaps over two seasons.

In pursuit of more playing time, Borders transferred to Nebraska last offseason, where he saw increased action, logging 147 snaps for the Cornhuskers in 2023, including 37 against Michigan. However, his playing time declined after the game against Illinois in week six, with Borders not exceeding ten snaps in subsequent games for the remainder of the season. He concluded the 2023 season with a PFF grade of 53.9.

Despite receiving praise from Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule during spring camp and being labeled as the “most improved player of the spring,” Borders’ decision to enter the transfer portal came as a surprise within Cornhusker circles. Borders has reaffirmed his departure from Lincoln by retweeting multiple articles confirming the news.
