Key Defender Josh Draper in Contention for Match Against Richmond

Injury Update and Fitness Assessment for Round Eight Squad

Young defender Josh Draper, alongside forwards Jye Amiss and Sam Switkowski, are currently undergoing assessments for their fitness ahead of the upcoming match against Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.

Phil Merriman, the High Performance Manager, has provided an update on Draper’s condition, reassuring that his hamstring concern sustained during the previous win against the Western Bulldogs is of minor nature.

Merriman stated, “Josh was withdrawn from the game as a precautionary measure due to a tight hamstring. Fortunately, his recovery progress has been positive, and we are proceeding with cautious optimism. He will undergo further evaluation, and his availability for this week’s match will be contingent upon passing the requisite fitness tests.”

Key forward Jye Amiss is also undergoing assessment after experiencing concussion in the RAC Derby during round 6, causing him to miss the Bulldogs clash.

Merriman elaborated, “Our objective is to have Jye back in contention for this week’s fixture. He has successfully completed the prescribed concussion protocols and is scheduled for a final assessment during the main training session. Barring any setbacks, we anticipate his readiness to participate.”

Sam Switkowski of the Dockers

Additionally, pressure forward Sam Switkowski is in consideration for selection after sitting out two games due to delayed concussion sustained in the previous encounter against Port Adelaide in round 5.

“Sam is currently progressing through the final stages of the concussion protocols. Pending clearance from the medical team, he will be evaluated for potential inclusion in the upcoming match,” Merriman remarked.

Furthermore, young ruck/forward Odin Jones is poised to return to action with Peel Thunder after recovering from concussion sustained during pre-season match simulation against the West Coast Eagles. If given the green light, Jones will be subjected to restricted playing time in the WAFL this weekend.

Meanwhile, key defender Brennan Cox continues his rehabilitation journey following hamstring surgery, with an estimated timeline of two months before his anticipated return to competitive play.
