Red Sox Update: Masataka Yoshida will be out for the rest of the seasons according to report.

Masataka Yoshida’s season might be in jeopardy due to a hand injury sustained during an at-bat against the Cubs. While the severity of the injury is still unclear, initial reports suggest it’s not too serious.

Theo Epstein’s role with FSG and the Red Sox has been somewhat clarified in a recent podcast appearance. He primarily serves as a sounding board for Craig Breslow, offering advice and insights.

If Epstein ever suggested transforming Tanner Houck into a Cy Young contender during their discussions, it would have been a wise move, given Houck’s strong performances.

However, Epstein couldn’t have foreseen the spate of injuries that have plagued the team, including Yoshida’s. On a positive note, infielder Vaughn Grissom is set to make his debut this week against the Giants, providing a much-needed boost.

Originally, Grissom was expected to be the major offseason addition to the lineup, but that distinction now belongs to Tyler O’Neill, who not only ranks among the league leaders in home runs but also aims to participate in the home run derby in a sleeveless tee.

This feat is one of the few things Carl Yastrzemski hasn’t achieved in baseball, although he has enjoyed watching his grandson play at Fenway Park.
