Atlético Ottawa has secured the services of Spanish defender Dani Morer on loan until the conclusion of the Canadian Premier League season.
Morer arrives at Ottawa from Portugal’s premier league outfit Famalicão, having honed his skills in Barcelona’s renowned soccer academy.
“Dani is a valuable addition who will enhance the depth of our squad, particularly on the right flank,” remarked Atletico Ottawa head coach Carlos Gonzalez. “Despite his defensive role, he stands out for his dynamic play, technical proficiency, and tactical acumen in the offensive phase. His versatility across various positions will be instrumental, and we anticipate his contributions will greatly aid us in achieving our objectives.”
Morer’s journey commenced in Barcelona’s La Masia academy, where he spent six formative years before progressing to Barcelona B. He garnered experience in Spain’s second division over three seasons, amassing 42 appearances, two goals, and five assists. In 2020, he made the transition to Famalicão in Portugal’s top flight, subsequently enjoying loan spells with FC Andorra over the past two seasons alongside Atlético striker Rubén del Campo.
Atlético Ottawa embarks on its quest for the Voyageurs Cup with a home fixture against Valour FC from Winnipeg in the preliminary round of the Telus Canadian Championship, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m.
