Brad Scott Praises Harley Reid’s Talent Ahead of West Coast Clash

Essendon coach Brad Scott has lauded Harley Reid as an exceptional talent, affirming that the 19-year-old lives up to the considerable hype surrounding him.

Reid, who was West Coast’s highly anticipated No.1 draft pick last November, has drawn comparisons to Richmond star Dustin Martin, showcasing his remarkable fend-offs in his initial six games.

In a standout performance against Richmond three weeks ago, Reid tallied 27 disposals, seven clearances, and a goal. He followed this with a display of 19 disposals, three goals, and seven clearances in a pivotal derby victory against Fremantle.

Despite being rested for last week’s match against Gold Coast, Reid is set to return for Saturday night’s home game against Essendon.

“He’s every bit as good as everyone says he is,” remarked Scott on Wednesday. “We’ve had him training with us and play in our VFL team, so his impressive performances come as no surprise. He’s a special talent, an incredibly impressive young man.”

Scott emphasized that Reid’s partnership with Elliot Yeo in West Coast’s midfield has significantly contributed to the club’s resurgence this season, making them a formidable opponent.

Essendon, currently seventh on the ladder, poses a challenge for West Coast with their strong lineup. The Bombers showcased their versatility against Collingwood last week, fielding a team loaded with tall players, including ruckmen Todd Goldstein and Sam Draper, and several forwards.

Scott indicated that team selection would be tailored to the opposition each week, emphasizing the importance of flexibility within the lineup. He acknowledged the positive competition for spots within the team, emphasizing the significance of consistent performances.

Essendon midfielder Archie Perkins is likely to return from a hamstring injury, while West Coast will welcome back Tom Barrass from suspension and forward Noah Long from a hip injury.
