Breaking News: Kansas secures commitment from Texas running back…
A week after its last commitment, the KU football program has expanded its 2025 high school recruiting class. Running back John Kelly announced his commitment to Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks on Tuesday night, choosing KU over 18 other offers.
Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 190 pounds, Kelly recently visited the campus in March. During his two-day stay for the first week of spring practice, he had the opportunity to interact with the KU staff and observe the team in action, marking his first visit to Lawrence. He plans to return this summer for an official visit to KU.
Kelly received an offer from KU during his junior season, with Jonathan Wallace making him feel like a priority from the start. In January, Wallace was joined by Lance Leipold in visiting Kelly’s school, allowing them to meet in person. Kelly appreciated Wallace’s sincere approach to recruiting.
Throughout his recruitment, Kelly garnered offers from various programs, including Arizona, Duke, Missouri, Texas Tech, and SMU, among others. Although not currently rated by 247Sports, his rating is expected to change soon.
Aside from football, Kelly is also involved in track, boasting a personal best 100-meter time of 1.075 seconds last spring and aiming to improve to the 10.5-second range this spring.
With Kelly’s commitment, KU now has three offensive players committed, including quarterback David McComb and offensive lineman Anderson Kopp.
