Kansas basketball sets sights on transfer portal guard as potential final recruit for Jayhawks squad.

Kansas basketball has secured four transfers from the portal this offseason, but HC Bill Self is eyeing a potential final addition after high school recruit Labaron Philon’s decommitment. This addition would likely come via the transfer portal.

Amidst this search, the coaching staff may have identified a promising prospect. Former UTSA guard Jordan Ivy-Curry recently withdrew his commitment to Virginia Tech, sparking interest from various schools, with Kansas among the frontrunners.

Ivy-Curry’s decision came as a surprise following a standout season with the Roadrunners, where he averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 21 games off the bench. Given Kansas’ focus on guards in the transfer portal, Self’s interest in Ivy-Curry is understandable.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 170 pounds, Ivy-Curry is a graduate transfer entering his final season of eligibility. Despite primarily serving as a second-unit player, he has consistently delivered impressive scoring performances. While not the top shooter in the portal, he boasted a respectable 38.7% three-point shooting accuracy on 5.7 attempts per game during the 2023-24 campaign.

Among the schools vying for his commitment, Kansas stands out as a prominent contender. Despite interest from Texas A&M, TCU, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma, the Jayhawks, led by Coach Self, have a strong chance of securing Ivy-Curry’s commitment.

If Ivy-Curry chooses Kansas, he would join a backcourt featuring Dajuan Harris, Zeke Mayo, and incoming sophomores Elmarko Jackson and Jamari McDowell. While playing time might be limited in Lawrence, Ivy-Curry could be willing to sacrifice minutes for the opportunity to contribute to a winning team.

His sudden departure from Virginia Tech’s lineup, where he was expected to play a significant role, adds intrigue to his decision-making process. Perhaps the influence of a Hall of Fame coach played a role in his change of heart.
