“Tigers Part Ways with Star Forward Amid Uncertainty About Future with Club”

The Wests Tigers have reportedly engaged in discussions with Stefano Utoikamanu’s agent, Daniel O’Loughlin, regarding the prop’s future. Despite being technically contracted until the end of 2025, Utoikamanu possesses a clause allowing him to depart if the team fails to reach the finals this year.

While the Tigers, under new coach Benji Marshall, have shown improvement in the early stages of the 2024 season, their playoff contention remains uncertain.

Utoikamanu, anticipating a significant salary increase in his next contract, would likely attract interest from several teams if he chooses to explore other options. However, reports suggest that the club is eager to secure a long-term deal with the star prop promptly.

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson, who reportedly met with Utoikamanu’s agent, has emphasized the club’s determination to retain the forward. This commitment follows speculation linking Utoikamanu to the Penrith Panthers, although the player has expressed a desire to stay with the Tigers.

The Tigers consider Utoikamanu a cornerstone of their forward pack, recognizing his potential to become a leader on the field. Despite no specific timeline for his decision, the club remains hopeful that Utoikamanu will continue to contribute to their success in the years to come.
