On Thursday, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finalized the signings of defensive linemen David Green and Rick D’Abreu, as recorded on the CFL Transactions page.
David Green, hailing from West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, stands at six feet one inch tall and weighs 285 pounds. In the 2023 season, the 24-year-old contributed 33 tackles (8 solo, 25 assists), three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery across 12 games for the Pittsburgh Panthers.
During his collegiate tenure at Pittsburgh spanning from 2019 to 2023, Green amassed a total of 92 tackles (34 solo, 58 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over 60 games.
Green’s achievements at Central Catholic High School include accolades such as inclusion in the Pennsylvania Football Writers All-Class 6A, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Fabulous 22”, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review “Terrific 25”, and All-Northern Seven Conference teams. As a pivotal three-year starter, Green notably contributed to Central Catholic’s impressive record of 39-6 (.867), securing two WPIAL championships and a PIAA title.
Rick D’Abreu, a native of Chester, Virginia, stands at six feet two inches tall and weighs 280 pounds. Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, D’Abreu showcased his prowess on the field during his collegiate career.
D’Abreu’s journey commenced at East Carolina University, where he played four seasons from 2019 to 2022, accumulating 46 tackles (20 solo, 26 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 32 games for the Pirates. Subsequently, in 2023, D’Abreu transferred to TCU, where he contributed 12 tackles (4 solo, 8 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, and half a sack in 10 games for the Horned Frogs.
Following the conclusion of the 2023 season, D’Abreu participated in the 2024 College Gridiron Showcase, further demonstrating his skills and potential in the realm of football.
