Oklahoma State University has successfully recruited receiver Gavin Freeman from the University of Oklahoma, as announced by Freeman on Sunday. With an already potent offense poised for the upcoming season, Freeman’s addition bolsters the Cowboys’ arsenal and provides quarterback Alan Bowman with another viable target.
Freeman, who has played in every game for the Sooners over the past two seasons, seeks a more prominent role and greater productivity. In the 2023 season, he contributed 19 receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. Notably, his standout performance occurred during the victory against Arkansas State, where he recorded four receptions for 19 yards and a touchdown. Additionally, Freeman showcased his versatility by scoring a punt return touchdown in that game.
In previous seasons, Freeman’s opportunities were more limited, but he still managed to make impactful plays. One such highlight was during a victory against Kansas, where he made a career-long 41-yard reception among his three catches that season.

Moreover, Freeman displayed his dual-threat capabilities in 2022, rushing seven times for 71 yards and one touchdown. Standing at 5-foot-8 and weighing 189 pounds, Freeman’s agility and elusiveness are assets that could significantly contribute to Oklahoma State’s offense in the upcoming season.
While some athletes, such as Trace Ford, have transferred from Oklahoma State to Oklahoma in the past, Freeman’s commitment represents a reversal of that trend. His decision to join Oklahoma State is considered a significant acquisition for Coach Mike Gundy’s team as they prepare to compete in the revamped Big 12 conference next season.
In the previous season, Oklahoma State concluded with a 10-4 record and advanced to the Big 12 Championship in Arlington. With an abundance of talent returning to both offense and defense, the Cowboys are positioned as strong contenders in the conference once again. The addition of Freeman further enhances their prospects of securing their first conference title since 2011 and potentially earning a spot in the College Football Playoff.
