“Swans Unveil Fresh Marn Grook Guernsey Design for 2024 Season”
Introducing our 2024 Marn Grook Guernsey, crafted with pride by Yuin artist Richard Campbell in collaboration with our ARA First Nations Foundations initiative.
Richard, uncle to former Sydney Swans player James Bell, worked alongside youngsters engaged in cultural sessions through the inaugural ARA First Nations Foundations program in Shellharbour. Together, they crafted an artwork selected for this year’s guernsey.
Our 2024 Sydney Swans Nike Mens Indigenous Guernsey, available at the Swanshop, features intricate details:
The design showcases Richard’s totem, Gunyu, the black swan, whose feathers morph into the figure of Gumaraa, representing a wise elder.
Gumaraa gazes through his totem, encompassing the past, present, and future of his homeland. As a warrior, he embodies the essence of his people and the land.
Symbolizing unity, the four circles represent Gumaraa’s family and tribe, fostering collaboration among Sydney’s diverse communities.
Depicting the past and present Swans players, three Aboriginal warriors spear fish, embodying resilience and continuity.
The joined hands at the guernsey’s back signify connection and unity among individuals and communities.
Gunyu, the black swan, symbolizes Gumaraa’s spirit, perpetually observing the land.
for Indigenous youth aged 11 to 18 to engage in sports, cultural education, and mental health workshops across five hubs in New South Wales.
To date, the program has impacted 400 participants, with 55 advancing to the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.
