Caitlin Clark Sends Message to her former teammate from Iowa, now a rookie with the Aces.

Indiana Fever standout guard Caitlin Clark isn’t the sole WNBA rookie hailing from her Iowa Final Four squads. Kate Martin, who played alongside Clark at Iowa from 2020 to 2024, joins her in the professional league. Clark, the top pick in the WNBA Draft, acknowledged her former teammate’s transition to the league on Instagram during the week of April 28 as WNBA training camps commenced. Martin was selected by the Las Vegas Aces with the No. 18 pick in the second round of the draft on April 15.

Clark mentioned their ongoing communication despite being in different states—Indiana and Nevada—during a media interaction on May 2. She emphasized their close friendship and mutual support, expressing her desire for Martin’s success, both personally and professionally.

Martin recently survived the Aces’ roster cuts on May 6, a testament to her potential as a WNBA player. Clark praised her skills and leadership qualities, highlighting her versatility and impact on the team. Despite their physical separation, Clark remains supportive of Martin, wishing she could still be her teammate.

During her tenure at Iowa, Martin showcased her basketball prowess, averaging eight points per game over five seasons. As a 6-foot-0 guard, she demonstrated proficiency in scoring, rebounding, and playmaking, shooting impressively from the field and beyond the arc.

Martin looks forward to proving herself in preseason action on May 7 against the Phoenix Mercury. She embraces the challenge and remains committed to giving her best effort on the court.

Additionally, Martin has earned recognition from her Aces teammates, with Chelsea Gray affectionately nicknaming her “Kate ‘Money’ Martin” for her ability to contribute effectively and enhance team performance. Plum commended Martin’s adaptability and impact, underscoring her potential as a valuable asset to the team.
