Joey Manu Addresses Speculation regarding his potential return to the Roosters following the conclusion of his contract in Japanese Rugby.
Sydney Roosters player Joey Manu has addressed speculation regarding his potential return to the club following the conclusion of his contract with Toyota Verblitz in Japanese rugby. While expressing an aspiration to represent the All Blacks, Manu clarified that his future in rugby league remains uncertain, though not entirely ruled out.
Manu signed a one-year deal with Toyota Verblitz in April, leaving the possibility open for a return to rugby league. However, he emphasized that his immediate focus is on rugby union for the upcoming year.
During a media interaction, Manu stated, “I don’t even know to be honest. Obviously next year is rugby union, that’s my main focus.” He further added, “But I just want to focus on this season, but then I haven’t really said I’m coming back, so once I get over there I’m playing rugby union and I’m just going to try my best at that, and if I enjoy it, I’ve got a few things I want to do.”

Expressing his aspiration to represent the All Blacks, Manu acknowledged the challenges posed by eligibility rules that require players to be based in New Zealand. He expressed hope for potential changes in these regulations.
Regarding speculation about his move to Japan as a strategic maneuver to attract interest from Super Rugby Pacific clubs, Manu refuted such claims, emphasizing his primary goal of gaining experience and enjoying a different sporting environment. He highlighted the opportunity to learn from renowned coaches and expressed his eagerness to immerse himself in the sport once again.
