According to reports from Peegs.com, Pat Knight, the son of legendary Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight, is set to become the new men’s basketball coach at Marian University.
The news was first reported by Talia Goodman. Knight, who has previously served as a scout for the Indiana Pacers, will be taking over the coaching position from Scott Heady, who departed Marian to join the University of Indianapolis as their coach. This move follows Paul Corsaro’s transition from UIndy to become the coach at IUPUI.
Marian University, located in Indianapolis and belonging to the NAIA, boasts former Indiana basketball star Steve Downing as its athletic director. Downing shares a close relationship with IU basketball coach Mike Woodson, who has expressed willingness to have IU play exhibition games against Marian as long as he remains in charge.
The hiring of Pat Knight means that both Bob Knight’s son and Steve Alford’s son will be coaching within the same NAIA league. Knight’s coaching experience includes stints as head coach at Lamar from 2011-14 and Texas Tech from 2008-2011, in addition to his role as an assistant at various universities, including Indiana. His coaching record stands at 79-123.
Knight himself is an alumnus of Indiana University, where he played basketball from 1991-95 after excelling in high school basketball at Bloomington North.
