Jordan de Goey and Tom Mitchell suffer a new setback in the AFL, dealing a ‘devastating’ double blow to the Lions.

Collingwood’s top players, Jordan de Goey and Tom Mitchell, will be absent from the upcoming clash against the West Coast Eagles on Sunday. De Goey missed Collingwood’s previous victory over Carlton due to a groin issue and will continue to sit out for at least another week.

Since experiencing groin soreness after Collingwood’s draw with Essendon on Anzac Day, De Goey has been unable to participate in training sessions. His absence presents a significant setback for Collingwood, who have been gradually improving their season after a rocky start, currently sitting ninth in the standings, just two points shy of the top eight.

De Goey’s return to running is not expected until the latter part of the following week, raising doubts about his availability for the round 10 match against Adelaide at the MCG. Meanwhile, midfielder Tom Mitchell will miss his second consecutive game, this time due to appendicitis. However, Mitchell is anticipated to recover in time to face the Crows and is not expected to undergo surgery.

Mitchell has been grappling with foot issues that sidelined him from last week’s game against Carlton. Coach Craig McRae revealed that Mitchell has been managing a plantar fasciitis problem, which hindered his ability to complete training sessions.

In another AFL development, Brisbane Lions have suffered a significant blow with Darcy Gardiner and Lincoln McCarthy both sustaining season-ending ACL injuries during their recent win over the Gold Coast Suns. Lions football boss Danny Daly expressed deep disappointment over the injuries, labeling it as “devastating news” for the club.
