TCU secures commitment from a transfer defensive back from Texas.
After losing two defensive backs to the transfer portal following spring football camp, TCU found a replacement on Tuesday night.
Texas transfer defensive back Austin Jordan announced his decision to join the Horned Frogs on social media. Jordan, a former top-150 prospect from Denton Ryan High School, will return closer to home and is expected to compete for playing time at TCU.
In 2022, Jordan appeared in all 13 games for Texas, primarily on special teams, and recorded seven tackles, including two against Alabama. Last season, he played in 12 games, again mostly on special teams, but he did intercept his first pass against Rice and returned a blocked extra point for two points against Iowa State. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 198 pounds, Jordan provides good size and should be a valuable asset for TCU, especially on special teams and in terms of depth.
Champ Lewis and Dre Seldon were the two defensive backs who entered the transfer portal after the spring. Lewis played as an outside corner, while Seldon primarily played the nickel position. Jordan mostly played nickel for the Longhorns, but he was behind in the rotation. At TCU, he will look to secure a larger role in the defense.
Jordan is the third transfer TCU has landed during the spring, joining Alabama transfer James Brockermeyer and Houston defensive lineman Hakeem Ajijolaiya.
