Mississippi State Bolsters Defense with Transfer Portal Addition: West Virginia CB Montre Miller Joins the Roster
STARKVILLE — Jeff Lebby and the Mississippi State football program expanded their roster by securing the commitment of cornerback transfer Montre Miller from West Virginia via the portal. Miller announced his decision to join the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon through his social media channels.
Standing at 5-foot-11, Miller, a senior last season, saw action in only one game for the Mountaineers, recording three tackles against Penn State before sustaining a season-ending injury.
Miller, who initially started his college career at Kent State, boasts a resume that includes 118 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and six interceptions across six seasons of collegiate football.
During his final complete season with the Golden Flashes prior to transferring to West Virginia, Miller earned an overall defensive grade of 78.6, an overall tackling grade of 46.4, and an overall coverage grade of 81.1, as per Pro Football Focus.
Hailing from South Carolina, Miller marks the second defensive addition for the Bulldogs this week, following the recruitment of Youngstown State defensive lineman Anthony Johnson, who underwent spring ball at Illinois before re-entering the portal. Furthermore, Miller is the second defensive back to join Mississippi State during the spring transfer period, joining former Memphis player DeAgo Brumfield.
In addition to defensive reinforcements, the Bulldogs have bolstered their offense by securing Utah State running back Davon Booth and New Mexico State wide receiver Trent Hudson in the spring portal window.
