Red Sox Rising: Three Top Prospects Fuel Dreams of Duck Boats

Earlier this year, during a conversation about the documentary “Four Days In October” and the celebrations of championship teams in Boston, Red Sox prospect Marcelo Mayer, along with teammates Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel, were intrigued by the idea of riding duck boats through the city. Despite not having experienced it themselves, they were captivated by the concept, with Mayer even setting a duck boat as his phone wallpaper. While they had the opportunity to take a Duck Tour during the Rookie Development Program in Boston, they decided to hold off until they could earn one as World Series champions with the Red Sox.

The trio, despite being in Double A and with much development ahead of them, regularly discuss their aspirations of winning a championship and taking a celebratory ride on the iconic duck boats. This shared goal has fostered a strong team identity centered around collective success.

Their focus on winning contrasts with the typical emphasis on individual advancement in the minors. However, history suggests that successful minor league teams can lay the groundwork for future major league success, as seen with past Red Sox prospects like Mookie Betts.

The Red Sox organization sees the trio’s commitment to winning as a positive sign for the team’s future. In Portland, where they currently play, the prospects are living up to expectations despite challenging weather conditions. Mayer, Teel, and Anthony, along with other talented teammates, are contributing to the team’s success while keeping their eyes on the ultimate goal: bringing championships to Boston and its fans.
