Former Red Sox Pitcher Kyle Barraclough Joins Texas Rangers, Salem Red Sox’s Johanfran Garcia Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury
A new chapter begins for former Boston Red Sox pitcher Kyle Barraclough as he signs with the reigning World Series champions, the Texas Rangers, on a minor-league deal in the American League West.
Having spent the 2023 season within the Red Sox organization, Barraclough’s recent performance has seen a downturn, with just 21 MLB appearances over the past three seasons. Both Boston and Texas acquired him from the unaffiliated High Point Rockers.
During his brief stint with the Red Sox, Barraclough struggled, posting career-worst numbers with a 12.91 ERA, four strikeouts, and six walks in 7.2 innings. This stark contrast from his career 3.86 ERA indicates a potential for improvement with his new team, the Rangers.
Barraclough’s journey in the major leagues has seen him move between teams frequently since his debut in 2015 with the Miami Marlins. With this opportunity with the Rangers, he hopes to solidify his place in the big leagues.
Johanfran Garcia is out for the season. Needed to be carted off in-game last week with a knee injury. Looked bad but now it's official. The 19-year-old catcher is #16 on the #SP60 and was off to a .385/.467/.596 start to the season with Single-A Salem.

In unfortunate news for the Red Sox, catching prospect Johanfran Garcia’s promising season with the Salem Red Sox has come to an abrupt end due to a severe knee injury suffered during a game on May 1st. Despite showing great form with five hits in two games, Garcia’s plans were dashed when he stumbled and fell while rounding first base.
Subsequent medical evaluation revealed a season-ending knee injury for the 19-year-old, requiring surgery. As the second-best catching prospect in the Red Sox organization, behind Kyle Teel, Garcia’s recovery journey begins with hopes for a swift return to the field in the next season.
