Texas Longhorns Secure Air Force Transfer Target Rytis Petraitis: Announcement Made!

In Austin, the Texas Longhorns initially focused on bolstering their guard lineup during the transfer portal frenzy, but there’s still a pressing need to strengthen their frontcourt. However, their pursuit hit a snag with the recent development on Sunday.

Air Force transfer Rytis Petraitis, in an announcement via his Twitter account, revealed his commitment to Cal, opting for the Golden Bears over Texas. Despite visiting the Forty Acres earlier in the month, the Arlington native has chosen to take his talents out west instead of returning to his home state.

During the previous season, Petraitis showcased his versatility by leading Air Force in various statistical categories, including points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. Despite the Falcons finishing at the bottom of the Mountain West regular-season standings, Petraitis played a pivotal role, notably recording a triple-double against UNLV with an impressive performance that caught the attention of many, including the Longhorns.

While Texas and coach Rodney Terry were eager to welcome Petraitis, it seems a potentially more significant role beckons for him at Cal. Notably, the Golden Bears had connections with Austin and the Longhorns last season, with former Longhorns Devin Askew and Jaylon Tyson, alongside Austin native Keonte Kennedy, featuring for Cal in 2023.
