“Dual Blow for Dockers: 27-Year-Old Defender and Forward Sidelined for Season with Injuries”

Fremantle’s vice-captain, Ange Stannett, will be sidelined for the upcoming 2024 NAB AFLW Season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in her left knee, as revealed by recent scans. The injury occurred during a training session at Victor George Kailis Oval in Cockburn on Thursday evening.

Claire Heffernan, Fremantle’s Head of AFLW, expressed the club’s commitment to supporting Stannett through her rehabilitation, acknowledging her as a valued teammate admired for her leadership and care for others.

Heffernan lamented the loss of Stannett’s presence on the field in the upcoming season but assured that the club would provide the necessary support for her recovery post-surgery.

Additionally, key forward Serena Gibbs suffered injuries to her medial collateral ligament (MCL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in her left knee during the same training session. Heffernan described Gibbs’ injury as another unfortunate setback, especially considering her promising form and dedication to pre-season training.

The timelines for both Stannett and Gibbs’ return to play remain uncertain, pending confirmation post-surgery. However, Fremantle pledges to extend the same level of care and support to Gibbs as she embarks on her rehabilitation journey.
