Amidst Dane Gagai’s decision to remain with Newcastle, the Sydney Roosters are poised to secure winger Daniel Tupou for another year, dispelling rumors of retirement or a move abroad at the season’s end. According to The Daily Telegraph, the Roosters are finalizing a 12-month extension for the seasoned player.
With the impending departures of Joey Manu, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, and Luke Keary, Roosters coach Trent Robinson confirmed ongoing discussions regarding Tupou’s future. Robinson expressed confidence in resolving the matter within the next few weeks, emphasizing Tupou’s significance to the team.
In his 13th season, Tupou has demonstrated his value with five tries in seven games.
Storm Dismisses Interest in Tevita Pangai Jr.
Storm CEO Justin Rodski has refuted speculations linking the club to former Bulldogs player Tevita Pangai Jr., despite coach Craig Bellamy’s interest. Rodski clarified on 2GB Radio that Pangai Jr.’s hiatus from rugby league for boxing pursuits renders him unsuitable for a mid-season signing.
Rodski emphasized the need for immediate contributions from any potential recruit, which Pangai Jr.’s recent absence from the game cannot guarantee. Although discussions have occurred between Bellamy and Pangai Jr.’s management, no formal offer has been made.
Pangai Jr., who previously left the Bulldogs to pursue professional boxing, is reportedly reconsidering a return to rugby league following preliminary talks with the Storm.
