Argonauts Quarterback Chad Kelly Pulled from Team Training Camp Amid Investigation

The Toronto Argonauts kicked off their training camp without quarterback Chad Kelly, who was suspended by the CFL for violating its gender-based violence policy. Despite this, Kelly appeared at the University of Guelph during the team’s rookie camp, drawing criticism on social media. The suspension came after an independent investigation into a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment against Kelly and the club. The Argos clarified that Kelly was not participating in team activities, with future updates to be provided as necessary.

Meanwhile, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats began their camp without veteran Canadian defensive lineman Ted Laurent, who announced his retirement after 12 CFL seasons. Laurent, a two-time CFL all-star, played for both Edmonton and Hamilton, contributing significantly to the Ticats’ success over the years. Additionally, the Tiger-Cats placed Canadian linebacker Nic Cross and American offensive lineman Joel Figueroa on the six-game injured list and suspended global punter Bailey Flint.

In other roster moves, the Saskatchewan Roughriders released veteran defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers parted ways with Canadian defensive lineman Anthony Bennett. The Edmonton Elks released defensive lineman Cole Nelson and linebacker Wesly Appolon, both Canadians drafted by the team. The Elks’ first training camp session was held indoors due to poor air quality, and the Bombers postponed their opening session for the same reason.

Finally, the Ottawa Redblacks signed veteran Canadian kicker Michael Domagala, who appeared in five games for the team last season.
