It comes as little surprise, but Collingwood stalwart Scott Pendlebury has affirmed his intention to pursue a career in AFL coaching once he hangs up his boots. Currently closing in on the milestone of 400 games, Pendlebury remains a pivotal figure on the field, demonstrating no signs of decline with another strong performance in his recent match against West Coast.
His transition into coaching has already commenced, having served as an assistant to Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd at Haileybury College for the past few years. Renowned for his leadership both on and off the field, Pendlebury’s coaching aspirations were confirmed in a recent interview with SEN, where he expressed his eagerness to formally embark on a coaching career post-retirement.
However, Pendlebury envisions taking a hiatus from the game before delving into coaching full-time. He intends to step away for a period, possibly a year or 18 months, to explore other interests and gain a broader perspective on the sporting world, including soccer, NFL, and basketball. He believes this break will rejuvenate him before diving back into the coaching realm with renewed vigor.
