Illinois has completed its coaching staff with the appointment of Corey Parker as the new defensive backs coach, following the resignation of Davids Gibbs earlier in the spring due to health reasons.
Parker brings two seasons of experience as the cornerbacks coach at Toledo, where he notably developed cornerback Quinyon Mitchell into a two-time All-American and a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mitchell, selected as the No. 22 overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, led the nation in passes defended over the span of two years under Parker’s guidance, setting Toledo’s all-time record for passes defended and earning consecutive All-America honors.
Under Parker’s coaching, Toledo’s defense excelled, ranking in the top 10 nationally in passing efficiency defense for both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Additionally, the team’s discipline was evident, with Toledo cornerbacks committing minimal penalties despite facing numerous passing attempts.
