Rakim Lubin
Rakim Lubin, a former college basketball player who spent a year at UConn, passed away on Sunday at the age of 28.
The Prestige Memorial Funeral Home in his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama, announced his death, but the cause was not disclosed.
Lubin, a three-star recruit known as “Rock,” played his freshman year with the Huskies in the 2014-15 season, averaging 6.5 minutes per game in 24 appearances.
The 6-foot-8 forward transferred to Cal State Northridge, sitting out the next season. As a sophomore during the 2016-17 season, he averaged 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 23 games, including 12 starts.
He then transferred to LSU Shreveport of the NAIA for his junior season.
Lubin starred at Gadsden City High School before playing his senior year at Buford High School in Georgia, where he averaged 20.2 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks, leading the team to the 3A state championship game.
He was named the Georgia Sportswriters 3A Player of the Year.
According to his college bios, Lubin’s parents are Sabrina and Roger Lubin, and he was the youngest of seven children.
