“Our team has shown great progress this season,” said head coach Patrick Sweeney. “Despite being young, they’ve stayed focused and have picked up speed in each race. This weekend is an opportunity to test ourselves against tough competition.”
The Wildcats previously competed at Nathan Benderson Park during the Sunshine State Invitational in March, where the 1v4+ and 3v8+ teams made the ‘A’ final, and the 3v8+ team earned a bronze medal.
In their latest race on May 4, K-State triumphed over Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown in Kansas City, winning the 1v4+ and 3v8+ races. They also had close contests in the 1v8+ and 2v8+.
Before that, they competed in the SIRA Championship on April 20-21 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, earning gold for the 1v4+ and silver for the 1v8+ and 3v8+ teams.
The Wildcats also participated in a Double Duel against Iowa and Minnesota on April 12-13 and swept all five races in the Creighton Duel in Omaha on April 6.
The season opened at the Hornet Invitational, where K-State secured seven first-place finishes across all boats.
“It’s been a year of learning and growth,” Sweeney said. “Our team is dedicated and hardworking. We’re proud of our progress and look forward to racing hard and finishing the season on a high note this weekend.”
