Jaden Schutt Opens Up About His Move from Duke to Virginia Tech

You probably heard that Jaden Schutt is making the move from Duke to Virginia Tech, where he’ll be playing under Mike Young‘s system, which is all about three-point shooting.

For Schutt, it’s a logical move. With Hunter Cattoor and Sean Pedulla no longer in the picture, there’s a clear opportunity for him to clock in some serious minutes. As he mentioned to the Chicago Tribune, as a player, his main goal is to be on the court: “I could improve all I want, but if I’m not getting playing time, it doesn’t matter. Ultimately, I’m a baller. I want to be out there.”

It’s a sentiment that’s hard to dispute. Mike Krzyzewski used to advise his players to focus on their own journey, which makes sense. Sure, there might be other players ahead of you, but if you’re not cutting it in terms of performance, you’re left with two choices: put in the work and step up, or try your luck elsewhere.

We’ve always had respect for Schutt, who’s shown dedication comparable to any athlete passing through Duke in recent memory, and we’ve rooted for him. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out. Hopefully, he finds success in Blacksburg, and we’ll continue to cheer him on—except, of course, when Duke and Virginia Tech face off.
