Austin Riley, Braves’ Star, Makes Significant Strides Toward Injury Comeback

The Atlanta Braves have faced their share of injuries this season but remain a formidable force in the National League East, holding onto second place. Despite setbacks, they’re still contenders for a playoff spot as the season progresses. Now, with the latest update on Austin Riley’s injury, their prospects could significantly brighten.

According to reports from Braves beat writer Justin Toscano, Riley has reported no lingering pain in his side following an intercostal inflammation. The star third baseman is expected to resume swinging the bat in the near future.

Although Riley’s return to the lineup is still a bit down the road, this development marks a positive turn. His offensive prowess is well-known, and his presence back in the lineup could bolster the Braves’ chances, potentially closing the gap with the leading Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Prior to his injury, Riley was maintaining a .245 batting average with three home runs and 18 RBIs.

Fortunately, Riley’s injury didn’t require him to be placed on the injured list, and he hasn’t played since May 12. While he’s set to miss several games, the Braves opted against placing their star player on the IL. The fact that he’s nearing a return suggests he could be back in action before the end of May.

Looking ahead, the Braves are eyeing another shot at the World Series, last winning in 2021 with a roster that’s largely intact. Though missing key pitcher Spencer Strider poses a challenge, their offense, led by Riley and Ronald Acuña Jr., remains potent. Riley’s return should further strengthen their offensive lineup.

While their primary hurdle remains the Phillies, who currently hold a 4.5-game lead, there’s ample time left in the season for the Braves to climb back to the top of the division. Even if they can’t secure the top spot, they’ll aim to secure a Wild Card berth with a strong record. With a talented roster, the Braves are poised to remain competitive throughout the season.
