New Atlanta Braves Trade Acquisitions is leaving reasons…

While the month isn’t over yet, the Atlanta Braves have been busy in May, bringing in two new players and trading away infielder Luis Guillorme.

The two newcomers, Zack Short and Jimmy Herget, were added to the organization at different times. Zack Short, a 28-year-old, was acquired from the Boston Red Sox on May 9 for cash. He has quickly made an impact at the major league level, filling in for the injured third baseman Austin Riley. In four games, Short has maintained a perfect fielding percentage at third base and has been productive offensively, slashing .400/.571/.600 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a stolen base, along with a 2:4 K:BB ratio.

Jimmy Herget was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels on May 2 for cash but has not yet played for Atlanta. Instead, he has been pitching for Triple-A Gwinnett, where he has made four relief appearances, posting a 2.25 ERA over four innings. Herget has also recorded a 7:2 K:BB ratio and one save during this time.

Looking ahead, Short’s role will likely diminish once Riley returns from injury, but he has made a strong case to remain with Atlanta as a bench player. Meanwhile, Herget, despite being in Gwinnett, could see time with the Braves this season if he continues to perform well. Can both maintain their strong performances going forward?
