Despite the retirement of head coach Nick Saban, Alabama remains committed to its championship standard under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. The Crimson Tide continues to set high expectations for competing for titles each season.
During a recent segment on Always College Football, ESPN’s Greg McElroy discussed the probability of DeBoer capturing a national championship during his tenure in Tuscaloosa.
“I’d put the chances of him winning a national championship at Alabama at 75%,” McElroy stated. “I believe Kalen DeBoer will secure a national championship at Alabama. I don’t anticipate it taking too long. He’s only suffered two losses against ranked opponents in his career.
“He’s previously won national titles, albeit at the NAIA level, but he possesses valuable insights into what it takes to compete in a playoff scenario and emerge victorious,” McElroy added.
DeBoer has a track record of success with only 12 losses as a head coach and three national championships at the NAIA level. He also guided Washington to a Pac-12 Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship game last season.
Despite uncertainties surrounding Alabama’s prospects in DeBoer’s inaugural season, there’s confidence that he can lead the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff and contend for a national title. McElroy is optimistic that the new head coach can achieve immediate success in Tuscaloosa.
“He steps into a roster that’s deeper and more complete than what he had at Washington,” McElroy remarked. “While he may lack the same level of offensive firepower, the defensive personnel is notably stronger in multiple positions.
“I think it’s very likely. With the talented roster he’s inherited, I believe he’ll make it happen… Perhaps sooner rather than later.”
