SMU Secures Commitment of 2025 Defensive Back Target Over Oklahoma State

The SMU Mustangs triumphed in a recruiting showdown against Oklahoma State and other prominent conference programs, securing the commitment of three-star defensive back Zadian Gentry for the 2025 season. Hailing from McKinney, Texas, Gentry opted for SMU after his official visit over the weekend.

Choosing SMU over offers from Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Baylor, and Missouri, Gentry cited the Mustangs’ move to the ACC and their commitment to success as key factors in his decision. He expressed confidence in contributing to the team’s growth, stating, “With guys like me on their board, they’re going to keep stocking up.”

Although Oklahoma State hosted Gentry for an official visit in April, he developed a strong bond with SMU coaches Rickey Hunley and Scott Symons. Gentry highlighted their communication and the opportunity for early impact as standout aspects of SMU’s appeal.

For Oklahoma State, Gentry’s decision to join SMU, despite being close to home, underscores the importance of recruiting efforts in the Dallas area. Despite missing out on Gentry, Oklahoma State remains active in securing talent, currently ranking 26th nationally in recruiting for the 2025 class.
