Collingwood Names Two New Faces for Friday Night Game Against Fremantle at Optus Stadium

Collingwood Football Club has confirmed that young talents Ed Allan and Will Parker will make their AFL debuts in the upcoming clash against Fremantle at Optus Stadium this Friday night. The announcement comes as the club faces a mounting injury crisis, forcing coach Craig McRae to delve deep into the squad for reinforcements.

Ed Allan, drafted with Pick 19 in the 2022 National Draft, has impressed the coaching staff since joining the club. The versatile West Australian product has showcased his skills across half-back, on the wing, and through the midfield during his time in the VFL. With a reputation for exceptional fitness and endurance, Allan is poised to make a significant impact in his debut.

Joining Allan is Will Parker, a former first-class cricketer and Big Bash League leg-spinner who transitioned to Australian rules football earlier this year. Signed as a Category B Rookie, Parker has quickly adapted to football, showcasing his talent as a rebounding defender for Collingwood’s reserves.

Coach Craig McRae expressed confidence in the abilities of both Allan and Parker, highlighting Allan’s fitness and Parker’s unique journey to the AFL. “Both players have shown tremendous dedication and skill since joining the club, and we believe they’re ready to step up and contribute,” McRae said.

The debutants’ inclusion comes as the Pies grapple with a series of injuries to key players. Round 10 matchwinner Jordan De Goey will miss the game due to a fresh abdominal injury, while Will Hoskin-Elliot (hamstring) and Reef McInnes (concussion) are also sidelined. The return of forward duo Beau McCreery and Brody Mihocek is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the team’s lineup.

Despite the challenges posed by injuries, McRae remains optimistic about Collingwood’s prospects. “We’ve had to dig deep into our list, but we’re confident in the depth and talent we have available,” he commented.

Allan and Parker will join Lachie Sullivan and Joe Richards as debutants for the black and white in 2024, showcasing Collingwood’s commitment to developing young talent amidst a challenging season.

The clash against Fremantle presents an opportunity for Allan and Parker to make their mark and contribute to Collingwood’s campaign. The game will kick off at Optus Stadium on Friday night, with supporters eager to see the debutants in action.
