The Oregon Ducks are on the brink of a new chapter in the Big Ten, but one of their former defensive standouts won’t be part of the transition. According to reports from On3’s Pete Nakos, Kodi DeCambra, a four-star recruit from the 2023 class, has opted to remain out west, committing to the UNLV Rebels for the upcoming season. Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, DeCambra attended the esteemed Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, making his return to where his football journey began.
Initially courted by UNLV and other West Coast programs, DeCambra ultimately chose Oregon. However, he struggled to secure a consistent role in the Ducks’ defense, seeing action in just one game as a true freshman last season. His lone appearance came in the team’s dominant 81-7 victory over Portland State, where he logged six defensive snaps.
DeCambra was part of a highly-touted 2023 recruiting class for Oregon, which included notable talents like five-star receiver Jurrion Dickey, EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, quarterback Austin Novosad, cornerback Rodrick Pleasant, EDGE Blake Purchase, defensive lineman Johnny Bownens III, among others.
During his senior year at Bishop Gorman in 2022, DeCambra played a pivotal role in leading the team to a remarkable 13-1 record and securing consecutive NIAA 5A state championship titles.
Now, DeCambra aims to bring his championship-winning experience to UNLV as they seek to build upon their 9-5 record and Guaranteed Rate Bowl appearance from the previous season.
Meanwhile, Oregon is capitalizing on the transfer portal, with Coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks securing top-tier talent from across the nation to bolster their roster. With the addition of 14 players, Oregon boasts the second-ranked transfer portal class in the country, as per 247Sports, trailing only Ole Miss.
