Michigan State Athletic Director Disheartened by Failed Connor Stalions Investigation at Central Michigan
Remember when former Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions was allegedly seen on the sideline at a Central Michigan game last season? Michigan State certainly remembers!
Spartans Athletic Director Alan Haller is now threatening to sever ties with the Chippewas if they do not promptly reach a conclusion regarding the incident.
Stalions, who was implicated in the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal, gained notoriety in Ann Arbor as Jim Harbaugh’s team went undefeated to win a national title. The 28-year-old took responsibility for the tactics that led to this success, which involved interpreting opponents’ signals.
However, the issue ran deeper. Stalions allegedly developed an intricate system to scout future opponents and understand their play calls, which violates NCAA guidelines.
When videos and images surfaced showing someone resembling Stalions in disguise on Central Michigan’s sideline during their game against Michigan State, questions arose. It appeared he was there to scout the Spartans, and there was even a video showing what seemed to be a recording device on his sunglasses.
Central Michigan initially denied Stalions’ presence, claiming he would not have been allowed on the sideline and initiated an investigation. However, no conclusions have been reached.
Michigan State is demanding answers from Central Michigan. As of December 18, 2023, neither the school nor the NCAA has commented on the investigation’s findings. It is now May, more than six months since the Stalions news broke.

Haller expressed frustration in a recent interview, carefully choosing his words:
“I’m eager for the investigation’s outcome. This could impact our relationship with Central Michigan.”
If Central Michigan was aiding Michigan in stealing Michigan State’s signals, why would the Spartans want to schedule them again? This could lead to Michigan State indefinitely avoiding games against Central Michigan.
But more importantly, was that really Connor Stalions on the sideline? The answer remains elusive.
