Breaking News: Phil Simms Dismisses Bo Nix as a Fit for Sean Payton’s Offense…

Count long-time NFL analyst and Super Bowl XXI MVP Phil Simms as an admirer of Bo Nix and his potential in Sean Payton’s offense.

“Towards the last week before the draft, you kept calling me saying, ‘Man, this Bo Nix, I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t like him. He makes one great throw and one great decision after another,’” Chris Simms, Phil’s son and NBC Sports analyst, recently shared on his Unbuttoned podcast.

Phil Simms, who has known Sean Payton since the 1990s, believes that Nix will blend well with Payton, in contrast to Payton’s previous experience with Russell Wilson.

“Well, first off, their personalities will match,” Phil Simms said. “Bo Nix’s father is a coach, he won a state championship in Alabama this year. He’s the man. That right there tells you a lot about who Bo Nix is going to be.

“When I watched him play during the season, I liked him. He looks bigger than 6-2, he’s long-legged, has great size, and is very mobile. He didn’t get the credit he deserved.

“And his arm strength, while not elite, is very solid. He makes a lot of power throws every game.”

Chris Simms described this as a “perfect mix.”

“Between the things you’re saying and what Sean likes out of a quarterback,” Chris Simms said.

Age is Just a Number to Phil Simms

The Broncos drafted Bo Nix at age 24. For Phil Simms, who turned 24 during his rookie season with the New York Giants, age criticism is irrelevant.

“‘Well, you know, he’s old,’” Phil Simms said, mocking the criticism of Nix’s age. “That’s another thing that irks me. ‘He’s going to be 25.’ So what? They act like these guys are going to keep him for 20 years.”

Chris Simms added: “I know; it’s a four-year rental. Let’s see where it goes from there.”

Nix will turn 25 during the 2025 offseason.

“I think he’s going to adapt to the NFL really fast,” Phil Simms said.

### Beyond Bo Nix

Both Simmses are also impressed with the overall quarterback room, which includes Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.

“I’m interested to see Zach Wilson,” Phil Simms said. “Yeah, he’s not Sean Payton’s kind of guy. So that’ll be interesting if he has a little flavor just for him.

“If Sean Payton doesn’t fix him, Zach, have a good life.”
