Predicting Patrick Kane’s Next Big NHL Contract

Patrick Kane signed a one-year contract worth $2.75 million with the Detroit Red Wings in November 2023 and had a surprisingly productive season, scoring 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points in 50 games.

Despite playing just over half the 2023-24 season, Kane finished sixth in team scoring and boosted the performance of teammates like Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, and David Perron. His exceptional skill and power play contributions added significant value to the team.

As we head into the offseason, Kane is now a free agent, raising questions about his worth and contract length. Although he remains a productive winger, his recent hip surgery and age may deter teams from offering him a long-term deal.

On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and former NHL defenseman Colby Cohen discussed Kane’s next contract in the #AskDFO segment.

Projecting Patrick Kane’s next NHL contract

Frank Seravalli: What kind of contract would you offer Patrick Kane?

Colby Cohen: I’d consider giving him two years at $4 million per season, but no more. Given his age and recent hip surgery, he was still nearly a point-per-game player, so I expect he’ll improve next season.

However, it must be the right fit. His presence demands attention on the power play and in critical situations, so teams need to be cautious.
