Phoenix Suns Sign Vince Legarza as Assistant Coach

Phoenix Suns Reportedly Hire Vince Legarza as Assistant Coach Under Mike Budenholzer

According to AZ Central’s Duane Rankin, the Phoenix Suns have hired Vince Legarza as an assistant coach to work under head coach Mike Budenholzer.

Previously, Legarza served as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2022-23 season under Budenholzer. The Bucks finished with a 58-24 record, securing the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. However, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the eighth-seeded Miami Heat.

Before his time with the Bucks, Legarza was an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz from 2018 to 2022 and a player development assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2015 to 2018. He began his NBA coaching career in player development under Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks from 2013 to 2015.

The hiring of Legarza by the Suns comes after the team did not retain any of previous head coach Frank Vogel’s staff. This includes Kevin Young, who was hired as the head coach of the BYU Cougars men’s basketball team before the start of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
